Habitat for Humanity,
With the completion of the affiliation process the real work of Habitat
for Humanity can begin. There are three basic ways for you to
participate in Habitat.
1. LEADERSHIP – We are always interested in people who
want to serve a 3-year term on the Board of Directors or who would be
interested in serving the balance of a vacated term. We are also always
looking for people to serve on the various committees. Currently there
are five: Site Selection & Building, Family Selection,
Family Support, Fundraising & Public Relations and Church
Relations. Board membership is not required to serve on a
committee. In addition to these possibilities you could also
head-up a special fundraiser or public relations event. You could
act as a liaison between Habitat and a church or organization you are
involved with.
2. VOLUNTEER – There are many ways to volunteer. There
will be a great need for builders, people willing to swing the hammers
and run the saws. Construction doesn’t stop there. People will be
needed for landscaping, painting, washing windows, and raking gravel.
Support will also be a big issue. We will need someone to make and
distribute lunches, handout ID badges, and provide rides home when
needed. You could also volunteer to staff a fundraising or public
relations event. We are planning to write and distribute a monthly
newsletter. Someone will have to address these and help with the
mailing. A Habitat affiliate is a corporation and all the functions of
a corporation have to be accomplished. We will do it almost entirely
with volunteers.
3.
FINANCIAL SUPPORTER
– Money is needed to buy land,
building materials, storage space, equipment and tools. We will be
contacting churches and civic groups about donations but according to
Habitat for Humanity International, on the average, eighty-five percent
of all funds come from individuals. When providing financial support
decide if you want to make a one-time gift, an annual gift, an
occasional gift or even a monthly gift. You decide what is right for
you; we make it easy for you. If you want us to provide tax information
